Imagine trying to be all graceful in public when your skin decides to protest and itch. So, you go in for one scratch, but it’s so addictive that you risk a couple of more. Before you know it, your skin is burning and slowly resembling the colours of sunset.
Sounds uncomfortable, right?
An outbreak on the skin is one of the most embarrassing thing, an outburst that appears and stays for a while is still manageable, but when rashes appear suddenly and disappear within hours only to reappear somewhere else, it’s like them playing a trick on you!
Such a trick condition only increases your stress and anxiety concerning your body and it’s responses to things that you do, eat or wear.
Almost all conditions of the skin have allergy like symptoms such as burning, itching, flaking, swelling, etc. Urticaria is not very different from these conditions. Urticaria also known as Hives, is the body’s reaction to something that doesn’t go well with it, like an allergy. The condition is characterised by red swollen bumps on the skin or a cluster or group of those bumps that resemble a hive. And it causes a lot of itching, burning or a stinging feeling.
Why are hives caused?
The body releases a chemical known as histamine to activate the immune system and the body’s defense mechanism to fight back something that can be harmful for it. In the case of urticaria, as a response to histamine the blood plasma leaks out of small blood vessels in the skin causing the condition.
The body is bound to release histamine as a response to allergies, chemicals in certain food, insect stings, sunlight exposure, or medications, and it is very difficult, most of the time, to rule out its exact trigger factor.
It is also said that although they are allergic reactions, they can be triggered by stress or infection due to an underlying condition.
What are the types of hives?
- Acute urticaria: This type lasts for less than six weeks, caused by allergies, or chemicals.
- Chronic urticaria: this one last for more than six weeks, and has an underlying cause like hypothyroidism.
- Physical urticaria: This type is caused due to direct physical stimulation of the skin, like exposure to cold, heat, sun, vibration, pressure, sweating, and exercise.
- Dermatographism: Theses are hives that breakout after firmly stroking or scratching the skin, they generally occur along with other forms of urticaria.
Why homeopathy for urticaria?
The most important factor that brings patients to the system of homeopathy for treatment is that homeopathy is an individualistic approach to the condition, as mentioned above an individual can be suffering from a few symptoms of the vast range of symptom profile for urticaria, they could also be suffering from a particular type of it, which would require symptomatic attention, which can be given only through homeopathy.
To top it all, urticaria is an allergic condition, and if another medication causes side effects, it would only mean suffering from two allergies or reactions instead of one. Homeopathy is known for its natural approach of treatment, which does not bear side effects. It is also non-invasive and cost effective.
