How is Hepatitis C diagnosed?

Diagnosis of the disease of Hepatitis C cannot be always done with a confirmation as mentioned before the symptoms take time to show and also with just the symptoms, it is not always possible to tell if Hepatitis C is the accurate diagnosis.

However, if you feel that you are experiencing the symptoms which possible indicate Hepatitis C, it is imperative that you visit a doctor as soon as possible.

The first step is for the doctor who will be running a series of blood tests to check if there are any signs of the infection. There are comprehensive blood tests which show and measure the amount of the virus in your blood, if at all you have been infected. There is also genetic tests done to see if you have the Hepatitis C Genotype in your DNA and then after everything is done, the doctor can decide what kind of treatment should be given to you.

There are chances that the Hepatitis infection has affected your liver. To test if your liver is damaged, the doctor will be doing a liver biopsy and a liver function test to check your blood and if it has any heightened enzymes.

Diagnosis of this infection takes time specially if the liver is damaged, so you must remain calm and patient so that the doctor can perform all the test accurately to get proper results.

Treatments of Hepatitis C

Unfortunately, there is no cure for this infection. There is no vaccine or cure yet. However it must be known that, not everyone who has been diagnosed with Hepatitis C will need a vaccine. Many people have immune systems which fight off the infection before it does any kind of damage to your body.

However, for the people who do not have immune systems to take off the infection, even though there is no cure for it, there are various treatment options. There are treatments mainly available for people who have suffered from liver damage or cirrhosis due to Hepatitis C. After the treatment is given, the patient is given weekly injections for 48 weeks but these treatments have major side effects, often life threatening. Ultimately it depends on your condition and your doctor on what he or she decides the best treatment for you is going to be.

Now there is another option of treatment here. It is long term, probably more than conventional treatment takes, however, you can be rest assured there are no life threatening side effects.
